"that's the problem one faces when buying T.V's here today, replaced by a better model tomorrow.."

That may be, however picture quality has only gone so far and FUL HD or 1080p is as good as you've been able to get now for some time.

Plasma have only recently overcome the burned image effect on the screen but still offer a better picture for sport and fast moving images

LCD's (for movies) have brighter images due to their rear lighting technology but your viewing span of an LCD is not as wide as a plasma.

You can virtually watch a plasma perfectly up to 180 degrees, don't have that same viewing range with an LCD. (try it with your computer screen)

All new teles now come with a vast range of inputs ranging from HDMI, composite, component, VGA, s video.

Ethernet compatibility is also another feature, (smart TV) also 3D option
Any new TV screen may be hooked up to your computer, the range of compatible inputs will see to that

As a main screen, its plasma all the way for mine, just depending on what features you are wanting to chose with it??

    Good luck on your choice

    Cheers
