I wouldn't buy one stock as opposed to property so your example is spurious....I am talking about borrowing the same as you would for a house and investing in the index.....ballsy move and one I haven't done but history shows the market will outperform real estate long term, also a better yield.
Investment in productive assets should be encouraged by the tax system, the slant toward property is short term thinking.
