I too am disappointed believe me. In re to my last post corrosion rate is greatly increased when transporting an acidic RE slurry, abrasion coupled with acid attack will cause pitting to the inner surface and premature corrosion. Looking back at conference transcript, clogging was encountered this can be caused by a slurry velocity that is too
Low, ie allowing solid separation and sedimentation in the piping, valves and nozzle blockage. But conversely running too high a velocity, with smaller diameter piping will cause premature wear of piping. so a compromise has to be made.
Possibly what has happened is nc and co has told engineers to chop costs to do this engineers proposed choosing larger diameter piping, to support phase 1 capacity. This implies a lower slurry velocity>>less wear from abrasion, but sedimentation and clogging>>>localised areas of pitting. Not being there I can only speculate.
Now that Eric is control, with the new coo I hope the emphasis will be back on quality. It is understandable that a banker will not realise ramifications of skimping on quality, till the process engineers who should've been listened too in the first place have to clean up. I am as angry as the rest of long termers, but want to point out that it's a multitude of factors that lead to premature corrosion. But problems will be resolved, this is a common occurrence believe it or not steering committees and such wanting their bonuses, blitz through chopping. Gl to all :)
