Jantimont, change should and can occur sooner. We just need to pay a little more and only buy ethically produced products. There was a report on Indian factory workers a few weeks ago on tv and the terrible conditions they work under. A few companies were named in the report. It was amazing to see that the very next day most of those companies had signed up to produce ethically. I feel though that it shouldn't be a choice, it should be mandatory. Until then all we can do is exert pressure on these companies to change through letter writing etc followed by not buying IF they don't change.
I myself feel that I've been naive and ignorant in regards to past purchases. I regret any dollar that I've ever spent where a child or adult for that matter may have been used/abused or mistreated. I will no longer do this to the best of my ability and encourage others to do the same. These families still need to work and require income. Let's just not exploit them. I have read that all it takes is us paying around $1 more per garment (less for food products such as those produced from cocoa etc.)
Jantimont would you be happy to pay a dollar more for something ethically produced or would you prefer to pay a dollar less with the knowledge that a child has been exploited??
