There are currently 5416 mammal species, so 10,832 mammals if paired up - plus food for forty days. The ark was about 137 metres long (not quite sure which ship yard it was built in) Then it rained for 40 days and nights, I guess the fish would have been okay, the birds just flew around for 40 days and nights, it's all very logical.
