LOL watso...yes roosters are considered highly inappropriate now...in fact many shires ban them! Sunday Times advertises female chook pullets in the classifieds...usually ISA browns at around $20 each..and from egg farms....and usually about 20 weeks old. Which means they'll start laying very soon, if they haven't already. To keep them out of the neighbours yards....lock them up in the chook house. If it is decent size they'll be fine. I never let mine out - keep them in a big bird aviary....they are just too destructive on my veggie patches...Cost almost nothing to keep going...they love weeds, they love food leftovers, they love the veggie plants that become past it after harvest... I buy about one bag a year of chicken pellets, and a small bag of crushed oyster shell to firm up the eggshells...Each chook almost always lays an egg a day...good enough for us..
