Yes J8 unfortunately there's not a great deal of long term shareholder value being added by many of these stocks. It is definitely a short term wham bam, grab the money and thank-you Ma'am! Interesting huh? A reflection of the current market maybe.

There will always be design issues with any tipping comp. Here, the exit price is the highest share price in the month, so hard perhaps to replicate the results in real life without perfect hindsight. I sold one of my tips BTR for a nice 30% profit but could have held on for over 100% had I been more patient. There has to be a balance between complexity of design and complexity of calculation. For example, adding an exit decision would be an administrative nightmare for Freehold! He does an excellent job as it is keeping track of tips and updating tables accurately on what is a free public forum.

I agree with J8 that hearts should be kept out of the comp. My reason is that investing skill is independent of popularity (John435 aside and a few others. Askier has a few early runs on the board). My suggestion is that the table of historical tips should be arranged from highest to lowest Effectiveness Rating rather than alphabetically as it is now, with the "less than 10 tips" at the bottom.
