I would not call the Eagles a basket case. They had a poor year on field but that can be turned around with a few good players recruited. The players hearts were obviously not in it at the end of the year.
The Eagles have a good administration and are one of the wealthiest clubs in the AFL so they can afford to recuit the best.
A number of players are retiring and several others are on the free agency list so they have lots of room in their salary cap to lure some good players.
