I agree preferential voting is not understood. But I believe it is still the correct system for Australia.
A discussion I had last night was about making your own decision about who you preference.
It was clear that a lot of people did not understand that a preference deal only worked if voters followed the recommended preference of their Candidate\Party.
If voters selected their own order of preferencing, then it negates any prearrange preference deal.
