If the above speeds, including upload speeds were set as a minimum, then I would agree short term it would be fantastic.
But the Libs are offering up to speeds, which is all you can do with the state of our current copper network being so mixed.
Upload speeds are claimed by the Libs is to be around 2 to 4Mbps, well short of even short term practical future demands.
By the Libs own admission, their FTTN is only a short term fix.
The FTTP customer connect was budgeted at $9.8b, the Libs plan is to only save a portion of that $9.8b, but most likely any savings would be eaten away through other spending related to obtaining the copper from Telstra, building the FTTN, the extra maintenance and operating costs and future upgrade costs.
Also add the inability to up sell product offerings to the same level as the original NBN, thus reducing potential income, (potentially $3b less income per year).
2 years difference in delivery times of each project.
The cost of both versions of NBN will be similar up until 2019, when the difference in cost will kick in.
I don't see that the Libs NBN makes any sense, even if costs are the argument.
