re: ***gold boom 1980s ? - 2 tom watso -you must be nearly as old as I am !!
I have no doubt gold will eventually fire up junior stocks but at the moment that is not happening in general terms with ANY commodity with any consistency. Spurts on nickel -spurts on tin, uranium etc and no doubt a lot of money has been made but market action in response to such incredible commodity prices is muted in my opinion.
You only have to look at capital raisings - in the early 80's gold boom and the early 90's juniors raised more money for gold exploration than in this Claytons boom - There is no basic support out there for gold juniors -look at De Grey and their share price -in the 80's it would be $2. And look at declining exploration expenditure in actual and 'real' terms -where is the real deal TFP?
In the 70's -80's if gold ran gold stocks ran hard - likewise copper at present prices would have caused a mini tech type boom. Us older brigade are used to that pattern -the pattern today is completely different and noone has come up with a satisfactory explanation.
