Actually HB if you look at the primary vote, the coalition vote was not increased by much, and the ALP vote did not decrease by much...
It was a coalition win, but not the rout they were expecting either.
what happened was that undecided people could't make themselves vote for Tony, and they voted for minor parties.
The election was to a large extent decided on preferences.
So it hasn't been the rout that you are claiming...sorry.
The election was manipulated by the Murdoch press which told people what to think and how to vote. Murdoch doesn't think voters need information and facts, they give opinion dressed up as facts...some of you love that...it appeals to hatred.
Labor shot itself in the foot to an extent, but Murdoch was there applying ridiculous pressure and putting Labor in election mode for 3 years. There was no clear air for Gillard in minority government, they had their boots at her throat from day one.
