There is no way that this type of thing is going to be profitable in Australia. In addition there is enormous resistance to change in banana fibre harvesting practices here. I doubt PPY could even find a farm willing to get a trial up and running with its reputation.
Unless stem harvesting is done as part of a push for modernising and mechanising banana harvesting, I doubt it will be touched anywhere in the world.
Also I very much doubt that 1 tonne of stems will make anything like 100 kg of fibre. the 90% water component is far heavier than the 10% fibre component. I would guess that 1 tonne of stems would make less than 30 kg of fibre based on how high Ramy's little boat floated in the water!
