On holiday in London, having departed Perth just earlier 'today' and right now as I type, they have a TV feature about fracking on ITV.
http://www.itv.com/news/2013-09-19/tonight-the-truth-about-fracking/
Perhaps something on twitter? their hashtag is #itvtonight
Included so far is an explanation of fracking, the benefits of it for Britain's energy needs and (opposing) opinions from a Greens MP and the editor of the Spectator.
Some points they're covering:
- US (particularly Pennysylvania mentioned as a shining example), Sweden, Germany & Poland mentioned, especially Estonia too
- Some dude (see link) in the US thinks water is contaminated since fracking
- Wells have 3-5 layers of casing to prevent/minimise risk of contamination
- Fracking has lots of support in Pennysylvania. Utility prices down, cheaper to heat home, etc
- A farmer in the Village of Dimmock, leases his land, receives royalty cheques from fracking, so he's happy and claims it's positively changed life for those in the area
- Federation of Small Businesses (UK) supports the wider benefits of fracking for creating jobs, etc
- Fracking likely to restart in Lancashire next year
- Activists claim health issue concerns, scenes of police pushing picket lines away
- Government is fully behind fracking, to ensure future energy needs, question of when, rather than if fracking is inevitable.
- Exploratory work at Baulkham(Who?) and soon near Manchester. In early footage they showed a tank with "Caudrilla" on the side.
Show just finished so off to dinner, starving!
Most of these points we already know about, but I figured it's worth mentioning the TV feature, given it's during a peak-viewing time of 7:30-8pm :)
