"to call us hoarders for owning a few properties is plain wrong especially when those properties are being actively used!"
There is a massive difference between a "few" properties and 100+.
"if I and others didn't provide the accomodation then many of these same people would be homeless as the gov't sure as hell won't ever provide enough housing"
Are you running a boarding house?
If some existing landholders released some property in capital cities they would be bought up, you are not doing anyone any favours keeping people "off the streets" by accumulating regular units and houses, there are plenty of people that would step up and buy them, they are paying rent after all.
You are just telling yourself that to make yourself feel better.
You have no idea what the govt. would or wouldn't do, you have seen an opportunity and you have taken it.
As for having a chip on my shoulder, one property is all that I need. I have had investment property in the past and frankly I don't think its worth it, other asset classes give good returns and less hassles from tenants, plus transaction costs are a total joke, each to their own If I choose to buy more property in the future that's always an option, but personally I cant see the need for more than a certain amount of anything, I invest in a range of things, as many asset classes can make you money if you are smart enough.
That is good news for you, so you have less competition and you can grow your property empire further.
