Jeffies, thank you for the geography lesson but I spent some time in the Persian Gulf while in the navy. It was over thirty years ago but I can still remember the sea conditions, which you quite correctly described as calm.

If you interpreted my post as suggesting that wave energy was a possibility for Saudi Arabia then I apologise for not making myself clear. What I was suggesting is that fossil fuel dependant countries are looking for renewable energy solutions to meet a critical shortage of potable water.

Why are they doing this when they have abundant fossil fuel, enough to power desalination plants for centuries?

The reason can only be that they may be forced to leave a lot of that resource in the ground. If that were to happen, what would they do for freshwater then?

Solar power is abundant and getting cheaper, so of course they would use that resource.

Other countries around the world are faced with the same problem but have other options not available to the Saudis. There are many locations around the world that have excellent wave resources that would get a "double" benefit from using CETO to produce power and freshwater.

These are the countries I referred to as "lucky."
