Labor did not need the Liberals' support for any measure, which they proved by passing a record amount of bad legislation.
John Howard had effectively stopped the 'asylum' industry and the related deaths. Rudd scrapped these tried and tested measures and implemented an open borders policy that resulted in at least 1200 deaths, probably many more. The blood is on his hands and his alone.
