Nagarjuna, it is a risk & does appear unsustainable I give you that, however to say it will never be paid back? It is backed by property & deposits are between 30-40% of the purchase price, although there are some schemes where there is additional lending against the property. One thing China has that the West doesn't is a one party system, so if they want to reign something in they can. I'm not saying that they necessarily will & there may be consequences, however there has never been a situation like China in history where a country with such a large population has had an economic revolution such as this. The closest would be Japan in the 70s & Korea following both with populations of around 5-7% that of China's. So any comparisons to anything prior is almost meaningless. Civil unrest imo is China's biggest risk & perhaps the Government will make the wrong decisions to ensure that doesn't happen. If China goes down we all go with it including the US as they are a massive holder of US treasuries.
