Just a follow on from Haplo's excellent post.

Although grades rule when and if a mineral discovery is made....so does the type of mineral.

Generally speaking the following list of minerals will cause a share price to rise on discovery.The value driver is the discovery itself.

Gold
Nickel sulphide
manganese
Copper
Platinum
Diamonds
DSO Iron Ore.


The following minerals generally add value to the share price as the discovery moves to production.The value driver is the path to production,rather than discovery.

Nickel laterites
Tantalum
Molybdenum
Bauxite
Magnetite
Gas
Tungsten
vanadium.


Of course if there is a market 'frenzy',due to market exuberance, then these guidelines may not apply.
