I've had the privilege of being a volunteer for drug arm on the Gold Coast schoolies week a couple times now.
whilst i think its a great event, its really sad .. we hear of rapes and so forth. Let me tell you, of all the rapes that are reported during schooles, there's probably a 100 or even a 1000 times more which are not. and in some cases lives are ruined for many yrs there after.
there's a high police presence, yes, but they can only do so much. brawls break out occasionally, and on one occasion a lady got raped in front of hundreds of people in the cavill mall mcdonalds, I was not there to see it (fortunately) however no one stepped in to stop it, reasons being 'they didn't wanna get involved' how pathetic.
and yes, the older folks cause havok too .. they are very very easy to pick out, but not so easy for a young 18 yr old girl drunk out her mind and left for dead by her friends who are all high on heroin or cocaine.
sad but true .. great event, wish it could be controlled better, and wish teens thought more about what they did to themselves and to others.
