Unfortunately Bluegen is designed to shut off during a grid outage so therefor no backup during blackouts.
I completed the survey questions to get this response:
Is BlueGen right for me?
Unfortunately, BlueGen® does not take you "off the grid" and may not provide the economic payback that you're looking for.
While we understand the desire to say goodbye to energy retailers, BlueGen is still connected to the electricity grid, so you will still have to pay for network charges, and for electricity you import. Also, early BlueGen units are being marketed to business, commercial and Government customers, such as energy utilities and Governments for demonstration projects. Like any new product, as volumes increase, costs will come down.
Finally, technical safety regulations mean that if the grid loses power, then BlueGen automatically shuts off (the same thing happens to grid connected solar PV systems). To go completely off grid would require a large battery system plus additional electronics. While this is technically feasible, we're not currently offering this with BlueGen.
We'd like to stay in touch, so if you'd like to keep track of our commercialisation progress, you can register to receive our Email Alerts.
Cheers
