An Indian-owned chemicals factory in Cheshire is to close, citing the high cost of gas, with the loss of 220 jobs.

Tata Chemicals intends to shut the 140-year-old Brunner Mond plant in Northwich - energy prices have more than doubled in the past few years.

“It is hugely regrettable that we’ve had to announce proposed redundancies today, but it is necessary to secure a sustainable future for our business,” said Martin Ashcroft, managing director.
