Long John won’t be letting them out of his sight in 2013 Caulfield Guineas
Darley's Melbourne stable foreman Paul Snowden says punters should expect the stable's Caulfield Guineas favourite Long John to be put into the race when the gates fly back in Saturday's $1 million Group I feature. Snowden, the son of Long John's trainer Peter, said it will be the intention to make full use of the horse's inside draw after racing further back than planed when the son of Street Cry flashed home late to grab third in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 29.
"He's going to be in the first three pairs on Saturday from that draw," he said. "He's an on-speedish horse.
"Circumstances didn't allow that in the Prelude but he'll be up near the speed on Saturday, in the first three pairs."
Snowden described Long john's preparation as 'perfect' heading into Saturday's 1600 metre spring grand final and he said the horse has thrived since his last run where he chased home Eclair Big Bang and El Roca.
"He's in good order," he said. "Personally I thought he pulled up better than he ever had after his last run and his work Tuesday was the best piece of work I've seen the horse put in, ever.
"The mile is no problems and I feel the horse is as good as we can have him going into Saturday."
Darley stable rider Kerrin McEvoy takes the reins aboard Long John on Saturday and the horse is the $8 favourite in Ladbrokes 'Double The Odds' Caulfield Guineas market.
