You can "make" Mars Bars, you can make Holden cars and you can make houses - there is no shortage of the raw materials.

However - you cannot "make' gold. There is a finite supply of it, and the gold that is not above ground presently is getting harder and more costly to find, and harder and more costly to get out of the ground.

In the long term the price per ounce of gold logically has to go up.

The Chinese are well aware of this and they are buying all of the physical gold available. They probably cannot believe their luck with the price being held back so nicely for them. They would probably be prepared to pay a lot more than they have to at the moment. The US and European financiers who play around with paper gold and set the price today will ultimately dance to the tune of Chinese pipers.
