sydney information meeting

I am planning to attend the HDR info meeting in Sydney on Thursday and would be interested to meet some fellow HC's after the meeting. As this will be the first HDR meeting Iwill have attended, I'd like to know the procedure for identifying the faces that link to the nicknames I now know so well. I'm a bit reluctant to sidle up to someone I don't know and say "I'm a hot copper" as I may be regarded as a randy police officer in mufti! Conversely if I am to wear a badge with HC on it , I'm likely to be excluded from the meeting by the HDR security on the grounds that I may have contributed to the nasty things said about Messrs Burns and Potter on this site. What to do??

Could those who have been through this process before enlighten me as to the appropriate procedure?
