The art of hiding things from the public is that practised by Tony Abbott; in contrast in my case it's just WYSIWYG.

As someone who worked very closely with fire services to ensure the safety of the thousands of kids and staff relying on me in some of Australia's highest bushfire-prone environments I can assure you that my motives are simple and well-meaning!

As a school leader I ensured we were as well-prepared as our structural limitations allowed. I therefore had insight into what was missing and into what would have made a substantial difference.

For example; in Victoria most of our school buildings are light timber construction built to a price and not to maximise the safety of students and staff. So much for the sincerity of our pollies!
