NSW has had to endure more than a dozen big fires in October or earlier, over the past 90 years. Consider the following reports:
October 1951 - 100 bushfires raged around Sydney in what the Sydney Morning Herald described as "the worst in history".
October 1948 - Herald reported that the village of Turmeil, 12 km from Ulladulla, was "practically destroyed".
October 1928 - Herald reported that Sydney was "encircled by bushfires".
Conclusion: There's nothing new in having major fires in the month of October in NSW. But with the Green Movement, why let history get in the way of a good religion?
