got that from my pal who owned and trained the winner of the last greyhound oaks held at harringay, uk.

lucky empress the name. if she got to the first bend she won. nothing could beat her. she was placed in the derby (one for the boys but girls were allowed to try their luck) she got knocked fist bend ............ all over rover as it was knockout rounds.

lucky was entered in the oaks. my pal had lost his licence (do not ask why, please) and 80 yr old harry pulling the hare with the tractor motor trained lucky (on paper anyway ha ha) harry at 80 and he took odds of 80-1 ante post. this was before the heats started. lucky got to the final. another rat oops sorry bitch had an unbeaten record. it was very short odds. I forget lucky's odds but she got to that bend first. she won. my pal went down to the table, picked up the gold cup £60 grands worth and was back in spain the follow morning. the owners of that fav were totally pissed off. they had the champers on ice ready but lucky (she travelled on the leather seats of the merc bless her) did her job and did it well. I did have the pleasure to see her win her previous race but not the oaks. lovely days. never forget them. the atmosphere is just something special. fools, cigars, lots of cash bundles, 50 cents punters (me lol) and girls with very short skirts ha ha. I often wonder why girls with short skirts up to their nickers went racing ! is it something the excitement does to some ?
