I don't think Saputo are done yet and may try a knockout.
I agree Saputo have the financial clout to go much higher.
But the real knockout here can be made by Australian dairy farmers.
Consumers in places like China will tolerate smog and gunk in their air. But the new Chinese consumer will not tolerate the dangerous foodstuffs corrupted by their own their government officials and their friends. They will continue to pay a premium for clean and safe dairy products.
'Clean & Safe' became the trusted motto of Meat and Livestock Australia during the years of the Mad Cow outbreak in the US and Canada. Their beef was banned in China, Korea, Taiwan & Japan. Many Asian housewives will still only buy Aussie beef today.
With the recent melamine poisoning deaths , botulism samples found in Fonterras lactoferrin plants, the recent limits placed on parents by the Chinese Communist Party on purchases of Baby Formula in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. I can't think of an Aussie industry better positioned both in terms of quality and logisitics to provide a safer product to a growing market.
I just hope that Bega can come to the table with an improved offer.
It isn't time to sell the Golden Goose or it's gander to others.
