    Hello all,

This is going to be a crack of the race with nice fields set up. The field is set at $8. I think that alone speaks of value of this field as it is anyone's race to win. So literally if one thinks that favourite will win and if they put $1 to win, they can back 7 other runners for $1 stake as well, so literally one can back 8 out 24 horses to break even. Hence my approach to this years cup is to look for stories after the cup, especially after yesterday's win of Polanski. What a fantastic story that was.

I have backed 3 horses e/w super cool, RUSCELLO and VOLEUSE DE COEURS and royal empire for a place.

The reasoning for backing super cool is 1. The trainer has done it before (This applies to all the trainers who had a privilage to get their horse to run in MC). 2. There must be something in the horse for Corey Brown to come from Singapore to ride (This also applies to all the Jockeys, who have to make substantial travel, but compared with the international jockeys, C Brown has an advantage of having local experience)

    For Ruscello,

    1. The jockey comments after the race yesterday 2. Chad on board (If he manages to win, what a fantastic story that will make!!!) 3. No. 24 coming out of barrier 24 with 50 kgs on the back I like it LOL.

    For VOLEUSE DE COEURS

    1. coming out Irish St. ledger Gr 1 victory (IMO for an international contesting in MC has to come through this race or Lexus or Geelong cup win, to be competetive in MC based on the history)

    For Royal empire,

The stable has been trying to win this elusive cup for so long but not with much of a success. It seems that their horses have ability to run into places at good odds. Hence going for a place.

But the main story is with R Hickmott trained horses, who has 6 runners. Imagine their 6 running in the 1st 6 placings. That will make a huge hi(story). In having said that I don't think that the stable has much of a handle on the cup, unlike CC, where he got fawkner in, by scratching rest of their horses. If fawkner is to go by his dad, him winning MC would not surprise me at all, but this is not a CC field and distance might test him out. One of the officially quoted message from the stable was in the lines of 'Masked marvel is the best stayer they have got'. So one can go by their own judgement.

If the track is dead, I might include Ethipia into calculations (I never thought I'll back this horse in any race, in the past I used to put a line through him, if he was in the field. But not after his last run in the Lexus. The trainer has been toying with a couple of gear changes lately. The only concern for me is the jockey.

Similarly I can write few things about all the runners. But I think I'll stop here to demonstrate, enough of my ignorance and these are just my picks for the big race. I hope I get a decent break at the work to watch this race on this tuesday. Can't wait for it. Wish you all good luck in punting on the big one.

    Cheers
    PMT

PS: As a side note, while the big MC might distract the punter from a punting perspective, it would also be worth to look around for the races on that day to get a winner. For me, if I read the form guide 10 times for MC, I get 10 different horses coming up as a potential winner. So once one have made their mind up, they can spend time looking at other races, where one can find some good betting options. Just my opinion for anyone new like me to have a good day. Also I think that it is important to see how the day pans out from race 1, to get a handle on the track conditions, favoured runners, jockeys etc. GLTA
