I doubt your views on the management of people convicted of serious criminal offences differ much from mine - I long for a much more effective and accountable judicial system and lament the systemic failures of our current systems.
Michael Coutts-Trotter has invited examination of his criminal past prior to his selection for employment.
His apparent rehabilitation will never undo his past but nor should it be dismissed; especially given the very senior leadership roles both sides of politics have appointed him to.
As for his marriage to Tanya Plibersek, their family and her performance as an MP; until and unless his past criminal behaviour is repeated Plibersek deserves 'a fair go'.
