    For those of you who watched the last two episodes of Horizon you would have seen:

    (a) Statins, aimed at lowering cholesterol, are the highest selling and most profitable drugs of all time; and, whilst successfully lowering cholesterol, taking statins won’t make you live any longer because the adverse side effects will eventually cause you to die;

    (b) more than 30 million people take statins daily for no good reasons, other than they are prescribed by their GP for various reasons including a wish to cover their potential liabilities;

    (c) Only 5% of cholesterol is provided by saturated fats, the rest is supplied by the body processes and cholesterol is necessary for all bodily functions including brain activity;

    (d) there is no evidence high chloresterol is responsible for heart attacks; and

    (e) Beyond the age of 47 the body produces cholesterol in the right amount and in accordance with its inherent genes.

    Now let’s look at (e). Gene silencing is what BLT does. Whether it can partially silence the gene that produces chloresterol and thereby replace long term potentially toxic statins is surely worth a bit of research. In fact I will predict that that this is an area of research about to blossom,

    Not my area of expertise and comments appreciated. But I smell a potential new opportunity for BLT's technology.
