morning,
hmmmm, taming the mind ----------- :) is that like tim tams?
My guess is that a definition of mind would be required before engaging in a meaningful on this subject.
my definition would be something like - the subconsciousness (SC) and definitely not involve the concious.
If that is more or less the case then I think one would more speak of training the mind rather than other terms.
The SC appears to be a product that is formed from responses to events that initially occur and are responded to with actions that cause positive or negative outcomes.
If those event responses bring about a positive outcome - eg. survival - then the SC remembers that response and will use it again in the future if similar triggers are encountered.
A pattern is formed. The SC appears to be so protective of it's human host that indeed if no triggers appear - it well may create events of it's own accord in order to hone those responses that have kept it alive and it's beliefs going to that point. Hence, enter with drumroll -------- self destructive behaviours.
So, is it important to tame the mind?
Well, my guess is it depends on what sort of life your SC is giving you.
If you blunder from disaster to disaster. If you make fortunes and then give them away. If you go from relationship to relationship with apparently similar patterns - well, maybe it is very much time to look to making a few changes in the SC.
Your SC runs your life ------------ pure and simple.
It is our beliefs that make us do what we do.
Are their benefits to ? shall we say 'adjusting' the SC and it's beliefs.
Well, yes - as said, it depends on if your life is a bloody disaster or not. It depends if you have patterns that are not providing good outcomes for you. It depends if you are looking back and saying 'why the bloody hell did I do that?'
'what made me think that?'
It might depend on if you are striving toward something and have never questioned why or what for.
Common sense says -------- what is driving you if you haven't made a conscious decision on this pathway - hmmmmm,
well, in that case, who exactly is in charge of the bus?
Every time ---------- it is the SC. The SC complete with strong beliefs, massive defences and operating completely autonomously and covertly.
Your greatest friend - and your biggest enemy - all at the same time.
Are there disadvantages to 'taming' the mind?
Nope - all good. But that is assuming it is done correctly.
Remember the saying - beware of what you wish for?
You are playing with the strongest force on earth - the SC.
SC belief drives individuals. Drives them to reinforce their beliefs, drives them to great wealth, to great kindness, to war, to kill, to convert, to overpower.
Now, that's a tool. And tools, particularly powerful tools can injure.
So, could there be disadvantages in using a very powerful tool --------- well, if you don't handle it the right way - yep.
But if you do? Wow, now that IS power.
One more question -- "do religions in general instruct to tame the mind? "
Well, if the mind is the SC and in the SC are all the beliefs we have and religions are trying to implant beliefs - then the answer is simple logic -------- tame? maybe. Train? Definitely. Manipulate? 100%.
One would more question why? ---------
imo, to reinforce their own beliefs and to gain power.
Why else would you start a religion? POWER. All the rest is smoke, mirrors and bull.
have a great day all
