In the basement of a multi-generational house Aachener a production-ready natural gas-powered fuel cell micro power plant running.
Homeowners Martin piers already participates for the second year in a pilot project in which the Stawag from Aachen, Wingas from Kassel, equipment manufacturer Ceramic Fuel Cells (CFC) from Heinberg and installation company Jürgen Hohnen install a fuel cell. In recent weeks, the Stawag, the existing fuel cell from a different manufacturer, with the previous project was implemented to replace the model "BlueGen" of CFC.

"BlueGen" is a micro fuel cell power plant, in which natural gas is converted into electricity and heat in an electrochemical process. With this unit residential buildings and small and medium business enterprises can be supplied with useful energy. The "BlueGen system" is as big as a washing machine and has a high electrical efficiency of up to 60%. Such a plant can contribute up to 13,000 kWh of electricity consumption with optimum utilization. Here, the unused share of electricity is fed into the upstream network and remunerated accordingly. In addition to the current simultaneously occur up to about 5000 kWh of heat that can be used for heating and hot water.

Serves as an energy carrier the "BlueGen" natural gas and biomethane. "The pilot project with family piers we can test the fuel cell system under real conditions before we introduce a consumer product," says Ralf Hinrichsmeyer project manager for the Stawag. (Wa)
