Yes it is a tragedy, any loss of life is imo. BUT what right have we got to question Singapore laws? We all know their laws when we travel there and the penalties!
Singapore is well known for their ‘No tolerance on crime” and their strict laws.
Singapore not only has the highest capital punishment rate per capita, but more important to them as a society is that they have the LOWEST CRIME AND MURDER RATES!!!
Majority of people in Singapore don’t even have contents/ home insurance. When we moved there and asked about it, the locals said why bother. After 3 years living there we could see what they meant.
People have said Singapore laws are ‘barbaric’, ‘medieval’ and so on BUT go live there for a few years and enjoy the freedom of safety, respect & harmony and it may change your mind as to who is more advanced in their laws and who is the barbaric one.
We have grandma rapes and bashing, home invasions, young tourists bashed and robbed at train stations etc etc etc. Sometimes the offenders receive merely a slap on the wrist and are back to recommit. Our old people are scared and just think about how safe you really feel at times.
I ask, who is the more civilized society? IMO, certainly not us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, what right do we have, and where do we get off with our emotive outcry over this young man??
Sure it’s tragic and a waste and my heart goes out to the family but I agree with many here: Dogooders & bleeding hearts, your own country would benefit more if you focus your outcry & rage on trying to change some of the problems & Laws in your own backyard. What do you think we have it right? If you think we are better off as a society, you need to think again. Please get real, our future generations need us to pull our heads out of the sand and look at the big picture!
