Just to buy into this again

Anyone doing a comparative study of philosophy should discover that there are a lot of conflicting opinions.

The arguments running on this thread [i.e. soul/no soul, an eternal existent/'all is illusion' etc.etc.] have been thrashed around for literally thousands of years. Collectively they are the old 'chestnuts'.

Every tradition, whether it be Western or Eastern, has had many contributors .... not all of whom have been sane.

Personal responsibility is a necessary ingredient for genuine personal growth. Part of that is using one's intelligence and applying that to discriminate between the rational and the irrational. When confronted with something which appears to make no sense, I think, it is reasonable to always allow that perhaps it should be rejected.

If something makes no sense .... perhaps it is nonsense.

Also, the discussion has wandered a long way from the title 'taming the mind'

To quote a little Zen story

Two novice monks were arguing about a flag waving on top of a building.

"it is the FLAG which is moving"

"no it is the WIND which is moving"

an old monk who happened to be passing quietly suggested, "it is your MINDS which are moving"
