Hi Strauss. I am a civil engineer who specialises in the stormwater industry and one of the hardest (and most costly) things when replacing pipes using traditional excavation techniques is the amount of other services that have to be worked around or relocated to enable the pipes in question to be replaced. Often these other services are damaged in the process, which adds to the replacement cost. In the event that something like an optic fibre cable is severed when repairing a watermain for instance, this can be extremely expensive due to the resultant down time that the optic fibre outage results in (service providers actually charge contractors for this down time which can be massively costly if it is a major optic fibre cable). This technology would alleviate such events from occurring. There is also the issue of the location of the existing pipes, which are usually located underneath roads or even buildings and therefore the road/building has to be dug up increasing the costs even further. As you say a real speccie but huge potential if they can crack that US market.
