This is especially important when people feel inappropriate and / or unfair treatment is responsible for that loss of face.

But Tony Abbott should be aware of that; he's even holidayed in Bali!

What Abbott is allowing to happen is the commencement of an international arm wrestle to determine the winner and the loser. Abbott is not thinking Steven Covey's "Win-Win" and is at serious risk of pushing Indonesians into their diplomatic corner and into self-protection mode.

Abbot's inept handling of this matter is taking our relations with our largest near neighbour to a diplomatic precipice that may well end in tears for both nations.
