    Indonesia has it's culture and we have our own. Neither is going to change a lot in the short term. Countries give aid money to keep foreign governments on side (did you really think it all goes to the poor), which is corruption in itself and I can't see that changing much. Indonesia is an important trading partner so we can't just piss them off. Diplomacy is needed.

    It all boils down to Indonesia looking for an apology for domestic political reasons. Obama apologised to Merkel over their spying scandal and said that it would never happen again, which is an outright lie, then it all went away.

    Although I admire Abbott for taking a tough stand (Australian culture), the fact is that he should have immediately apologised. Now it's going to be more difficult and embarrassing.
