BHP Billiton may write off Typhoon platform-paper
Monday December 5, 2005, 8:45 am
SYDNEY, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Analysts believe BHP Billiton Ltd./Plc. (ASX: BHP.ax) BLT.L may write off the $250 million Typhoon oil and gas platform that broke its moorings in the Gulf of Mexico during Hurricane Rita, the Australian Financial Review said on Monday.
BHP Billiton petroleum president Phil Aiken also warned analysts at a briefing on Friday of possible delays to the $1.1 billion Atlantis development, also in the gulf, amid concerns over access to equipment and personnel, the paper said.
Aiken maintained the division's production guidance for 2005/06 of 115 million to 125 million barrels of oil equivalent, but would not be drawn on targets for 2007 and 2008, it said.
The Typhoon platform is co-owned by BHP Billiton and Chevron Corp. CVX.N.
