Also with a business that has made many acquisitions, including acquiring management, there can be a tendency sometimes to "poison the well" by ex vendor management, who might hope to be able to buy their own business back, or pick up all the clients gratis if WOR falls on hard times.
The high SP has provided a reason to be diligent, and reap rewards, but if the SP is underwater, all of the daggers can come out - this dynamic can change very quickly. I've seen this happen - self interest generally rules in consulting as in other walks of life.
