to add, the writer's understanding is also flawed due to an improper social perspective
the writer appears to not see that those nations competitive in manufacturing are basically exploiting slave labour with 18th century Industrial Revolution conditions
Chinese, Indonesian, etc, workers being paid $1 per day which is what makes these nations competitive
the writer has, whether consciously or subconsciously, a "Gina Reinhardt" mentality
the writer is, by default, accepting it is perfecting OK to exploit labour as is done in Asia, where people live in slums
the reality is company & management income has increased massively over the last 30 years where as worker wages have remained stagnant (per CPI)
our problem is we are willing, as a society, to purchase goods manufactured in nations with 18th century Industrial Revolution like work conditions
our problem is we expect to pay little for luxury goods, like TVs, which should last for many years
a TV is a luxury good and its cost should be commensurate to a luxury good
