I date back to Menzies, and the only two I ever liked were John Grey Gorton because he was a likeable rogue and a pilot in the war [hence the scarred face] and Hawke. He was no genius but he was smart enough to surround himself with competent ministers who were allowed to do their job. [Rudd, eat your heart out] That and the fact that his "Compact" with the unions did more to reign in union excesses than any strong-arm liberal.
I am a hard marker I guess. Mr Abbott is still being tested but I am hopeful. Boy, don't we desperately need someone to repair this mess.
