re: elee ... australya 's softly softly approach
"i see a trend towards gated communities just like the states. australya is after all modelled on the yanks. maybe they should put some gates on Cronulla beach." says elee.

Ridiculous, ...... just prevent groups and in particular interest groups from taking over public places like parks and beaches. These hoons at Cronulla go there to inappropriately play tackle football on the beach so it's pretty easy to see the solution is one of enforcing standards in all public places.

We know that gyro fits the picture of a "gated" individual .... for this extreme mindset it is privatise everything in sight and have nothing public and shared. Then of course we can have incubators of hate and division because that is the mindset. It is a recipe for disaster.

Professor Jared Diamond is respected as the author of a number of popular science works that combine anthropology, biology, linguistics, genetics, and history. His recent book is "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed". I haven't read it but a reviewer says ...... " it deals with "societal collapses involving an environmental component, and in some cases also contributions of climate change, hostile neighbors, and trade partners, plus questions of societal responses"".

    He says .......
"When I was trying to understand again why some societies solve their problems and other fail to solve their problems, I eventually realised that the societies that failed to solve their problems often contain a blueprint for failure. And that blueprint for failure is when the elite, the politicians and the wealthy people in a society are able to insulate themselves from the consequences of their own actions. If the leading politicians and the rich can insulate themselves from their actions then they are removed from the motivation, they aren’t healing the problems of society and they’re not motivated to solve societies’ problems until it’s too late."
