When we went to school most of the kids left at forth form, after doing the school certificate. They then did apprenticeships or other jobs. The spastic (handicapped) kids had their own school and school bus too.
The school system was well disciplined and practical with almost everyone doing science subjects, maths and industrial arts. There was no dole then because there was more jobs than there was people to do them. The dole, single parent pensions, etc, all started with Whitlem. That was the start of the demise.
Since then most of the jobs have gone and the whole system got dumbed down. This was so that the kids who should have left at year 10 could be babysit for as long as possible. Throwing the ADHD and handicapped kids into the mix didn't help to smarten things up either.
Then most of the left-wing female university graduates, with no practical skills whatsoever, decided they would be teachers and unionists. They are the absolute experts at pretending that the useless are useful and the useful are useless. Of course, they don't like external exams. They prefer no one to be given a fail.
Now we have a school system where no one learns much and we all wonder why.
