PH oil output seen to increase as 2 more Galoc wells start production Wednesday, 04 December 2013 | 10:00
The Galoc oil field is expected to start commercial production from its two new wells, a government official said.

"First oil, barring any hitches, should be today. If there are no more technical hitches -- kasi usually you have to test everything [although] they have done the testing already -- [it's] supposed to be today," Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Ramon V. Oca told reporters on the sidelines of the DOE-GIZ Gmbh symposium on renewable energy.

The Galoc consortium earlier completed drilling of two additional wells in the oil block in offshore Palawan.
The new wells are expected to boost output from Galoc's existing two wells.

Galoc is churning out roughly 6,000 barrels per day, which would double once the new wells start production. The oil field has produced over 10 million barrels of crude since 2008. It is the only oil-producing site in the country of commercial scale.

Australia's Otto Energy Ltd, through subsidiary Galoc Production Co, controls 33-percent of Service Contract 14C, which contains the Galoc field.

Otto Energy's partners in the contract area are Galoc Production Co (2) Pte. Ltd. (26.8 percent), Nido Petroleum Ltd (22.8 percent), Oriental Petroleum and Minerals Corp and Linapacan Oil Gas and Power Corp (7.7 percent), The Philodrill Corp (7.2 percent) and and Forum Energy Philippines Corp (2.2 percent).
