RBR, in what subjects does content change so regularly that remembering facts is pointless? Perhaps the problem is that people DO use the internet far too much rather than textbooks which were properly reviewed, checked, proof read etc. before being published. Although most of that seems to have gone out of the window too, looking at the kids' textbooks.
Nor can you rely on being able to access to, and have enough time to, critically evaluate information in many work situations. You still have to know stuff, and kids are not being taught to learn facts. The vast majority of which don't change.
