with somewhere north of 5% of people in australia chinese,we can take it for granted that many of them will be doing things of interest to the chinese government.
when you have relatives back in china,when the chinese government representative knocks on your door,it would take a lot of fearlessness to slam it shut.
i am not saying that it is tacky death threat stuff, but being aware of the disadvantages of being 'not the right sort' is something people are aware of.
chinese business is an arm of the chinese government,and it is a fact that no culture has done piracy and intellectual capital theft on the scale the chinese government does.
the memory part of the memory stick costs a few dollars,and can fit anywhere,and hold a library worth of data.
we are just a suburb of china now,and all the american hating lefties need to have a good look at the future they are wishing for.
