    I know you did not advocate getting rid of Virgin. I think they would just go anyway if they did not receive the same support, if any, as Qantas. They came here, abided by all the rules, became a success, so why should they and their customers be penalised for that.

    And I agree that $50 fares are unsustainable. So I look at the one airline in Australia that has made profits every year for a long time, and see what they do.
    Rex does not do discounts, or anything special. It just charges consistent sensible fares, and has excellent very very tight management. Their management is the key.

    Rex has had to deal with draconian government actions in terms of fighting for slots, massive fees and charges, plus absolute outright bastardry from Qantas on some routes. And still outperforms Qantas by a big margin.

    There are very few truly well managed companies in Australia that deal with what is in front of them. Rex is one of them. It can be done, and Qantas can do it, they just have to deal with their problems. Crying and whingeing and the blame game will not do it.
