It will be interesting to hear WPL's plans in regards to the Stena Tey butchy boy. Considering the extension options they have on the rig, they may be thinking about using it in the Canary Islands.

Woodside began exploring the Canary Islands in 2002 when it acquired interests in nine offshore leases.

The most prospective areas are between the islands and Africa in the Tarfaya-Agadir Basin, more than 50km offshore in water depths of 1000 to 2000 metres.

Woodside holds a 30% interest in each of nine blocks totalling 6160sqkm. They are the only petroleum exploration permits released in the region by the Spanish Government and are operated by Repsol YPF.

Between 2003 and 2008, exploration activity includes reprocessing 2200km of two-dimensional seismic and acquisition of 3900km of two-dimensional seismic and 3200sqkm of three-dimensional seismic. Two exploration wells are planned from 2005.
